Fiction • 7.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2010

Listeners, especially those who usually dismiss love stories, will find this collection from Amy Bloom satisfying. Although details are sometimes graphic, and some of the situations are mildly shocking, listeners can identify easily with the characters. This is due in large part to Susan Ericksen's smooth, natural presentation of Bloom's realistic dialogue. Ericksen uses the subtlest of accents and a tone that perfectly matches the understated richness of Bloom's writing. Repeat appearances by many characters in connected stories showcase Ericksen's ability to establish and maintain distinct identities and allow for more in-depth story development than is often found in this genre.
