California gumshoe Toby Peters gets called to San Francisco to solve the mystery of who is trying to prevent the opening of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly in the newly renovated opera house. Stopping production involves more than picketing. It involves murder. This crime story is slick and lively, and Tom Parker is a glib and enthusiastic reader. He portrays the motley cast of characters convincingly and seems to enjoy narrating the story. This is an entertaining listening experience with no pretensions to great art.
