STONES INTO SCHOOLS Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan

Greg Mortenson continues his charitable cause, documented in THREE CUPS OF TEA, to fund and build schools in Afghanistan. His recent life, a travelogue of dangerous trips through lawless and high altitudes, becomes enriched by those of the wonderful native people who support and admire him. Everyone offers "Dr. Greg" the hospitality due a monarch. His account, written in the first person, comes from the lips of a woman, narrator Atossa Leoni. Her gentle, innocent voice doesn't fit as the mountain climber she voices but fully embodies his passion to promote female literacy. Leoni brings living color to the author's intimate descriptions of the scenery, inhabitants, and religion of the eastern Himalayas. The many tender stories proclaim the hope the author's organization brings to these communities in need. J.A.H.
