PRETTY POLLY

Pretty Polly is a talking chicken, and Jane Asher knows just how she sounds! She also knows how Abigail, Pretty Polly's patient mistress, sounds, as well as a host of other characters from several walks of life who appear in this perky book. Polly's voice isn't all that different from that of a talking parrot, which is what you'd expect. But Asher cleverly reads the narrative portions of the story so that they set the stage for the dialogue, keeping the listener focused on the characters throughout. Dick King-Smith's observation of and admiration for the nuances of the hennery are obvious; Jane Asher's narrative skill does his book full justice.
