With his majestic, gravelly voice, John McDonough provides a well-measured and powerful narration of this homage to the late Ted Kennedy. Painting a detailed account of his life, Canellos and a team of reporters from the BOSTON GLOBE highlight the major arcs of Kennedy's life and legacy. McDonough does exceedingly well with this lengthy book, keeping the rhythm and mood in accordance with each scene and moment. Most importantly, McDonough does not try to overtly mimic the senator’s distinct speaking style in quotes—instead he judiciously executes pauses and emphasis that suggest the flawed man who, many believe, ultimately proved his greatness.
