THE PROUD AND THE FREE

by | Read by Pamela Hensley Vincent

Fiction • 10 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1994

Pamela Hensley Vincent's performance makes one feel the suffering of the Cherokees during the 1830's as their leaders petitioned the federal government to allow them to remain on their farms in Georgia. The harsh, arrogant drawl of the rough men of the Georgia Guard is contrasted effectively with the educated, refined speech of the Cherokee leaders and their families. Slave dialect is also portrayed well. Since the reader does an admirable job with both male and female voices, all characters are easily differentiated. This well-read story of love, hardship and perseverance will appeal to many listeners. C.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: NOV 95]
