QUANTRILL'S WAR

by | Read by Richard M. Davidson

Biography & Memoir • 12.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1996

The Kansas-Missouri border and further south were the scene of intense guerilla activity by the Civil War's Confederate units. The name that stands above all others in this theater is that of Confederate Captain William C. Quantrill. Schultz's excellent bio-graphy gives us the man and the times in which he lived. He was a thug, a liar and a sadist, yet he was intelligent, charismatic and one of the greatest guerilla leaders ever produced in this country. Davidson's reading of this work is superb. His dramatic in-terpretation of this text displays his great skill in using his deep, rich baritone. One can hear the cockiness of Quantrill and the hatred of his lieutenant, "Bloody Bill" Anderson. The account of the Lawrence (Kansas) Massacre keeps one literally on the edge of one's seat. M.T.F. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JAN 98]
