QUARTERMAINE'S TERMS is a delight to listen to, a full-cast rendition of a Simon Gray play about an oddball group of British teachers (of foreign students eager to learn English). Quartermaine, senior among these folk, is dotty and has outlived his usefulness as a teacher but is used and sometimes abused by his colleagues in what really amounts to a tragicomedy. The timing of the readers, their inflections, their crying and, once, hysterical laughter are perfect, with Ian Ogilvy and Judy Geeson being particularly good. Top marks to Gray for a fine drama and to L.A. Theatre Works for a fine production. T.H. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 00]
