UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN FACTOR: LIFE AND ITS IMPACT

by | Read by Gary A. Sojka

Contemporary Culture • 12 hrs. • Audio Program • © 2009

An interesting introductory course covers the domestication of species—plant, animal, and microorganism—through human-mediated evolution, animal husbandry, agriculture, and microbiology. Professor Sojka is much like a book author who insists on reading his own work when a professional might be the better choice. His delivery is somewhat pedantic and sounds like he’s reading the material rather than delivering it to a live audience. In any audiobook it’s vital to maintain the listener’s connection to the work since the listener’s face-to-face connection to the narrator is missing. Sojka does have decent pacing and timing that help to counter his otherwise weak delivery. And his history as an animal breeder and farmer contribute an authenticity that also helps the listener stay connected. M.C. © AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2011]
