A WHISPER TO THE LIVING

Kaminsky's sixteenth novel featuring Moscow police officer Inspector Porfiry Rostnikov features a serial killer who preys on homeless men and a prostitution ring with high-level police protection. Daniel Oreskes expertly portrays a cast of characters ranging from the crusty Rostnikov, with his painful artificial leg, to a giant boxer accused of murdering his wife. Oreskes's rendering of the characters is equaled by his perfect Russian accents. The listener may get the impression that English is not his first language. It is.
