Lyndam Gregory sounds like he’s having a grand time performing the tapestry of characters in this contemporary Indian morality tale by the author of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Gregory gets to portray a young industrialist (soon to be murdered), a crooked politician, a Gandhi wannabe, a Bollywood star, an American good old boy, a mobile phone thief, and an Andaman Island native. There’s also a computer-literate terrorist, a loving hijra (eunuch), and a prisoner who speaks only in book titles. Gregory slips adroitly into each personality, modifying his accent and pacing depending on age, sex, class, race, and economic station. Surprisingly, the over-the-top story is based in part on real events. Well worth a listen. R.M. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2010]
