RACE MATTERS

by | Read by Cornel West

Contemporary Culture • 4 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1993

This treatise presents a clear and unbiased picture of race issues in this country since the Civil Rights Act of 1965. It isn't a pretty picture, but it's an excellent audiobook. Paying particular attention to black philosophers, it covers the relationship between blacks and Jews, and the relationship of middle-class to poor blacks, the relationship of gender to the black struggle. The author is a good reader of his own work, although some of his speech patterns and pronunciations are idiosyncratic. A professional reader might read the words more clearly, but perhaps with less meaning. Quotes from prominent black writers head each chapter and are read excellently by the author's mother, Irene West. E.F. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB 95]
