THE RAINBOW PEOPLE

by | Read by George Guidall

Children Ages 10+ • 4 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1989

This collection of stories is adapted from tales originally recorded in a WPA oral history project in Oakland, California's Chinatown. They're grouped in five sections: Tricksters, Fools, Virtues and Vices, In Chinese America, and Love. George Guidall gives these tales a superior reading. His pacing is always appropriate, and he uses pauses and inflections to fully capture the mood of each story, whether ghoulish, witty, ghostly, suspenseful or even terrifying. Yep's introductory remarks add interesting cultural information. Guidall enhances but never overwhelms this wonderfully imaginative collection of folklore.
