Mystery & Suspense • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2010

Scott Brick's melancholy tone is perfect for the character of Shane Scully, who is mourning the apparent suicide death of his longtime mentor, Pop. It seems Shane, an orphan, was brought up by Pop in a home for down-and-out children. Neither Shane nor the others believe Pop would ever shoot himself, so they form the "Pallbearers Club" and pitch in for a second autopsy. As Shane digs deeper, the reason for the murder becomes clear—bit by bit. Scott Brick's portrayals of the club members is spot-on. The tough Marine corporal who is about to return to Iraq; the Hispanic lawyer, complete with accent; the efficient female CPA are all are a credit to Brick's versatility. He's so good that he makes you want to cry as Scully's guilt about not having been around his mentor for years comes to the surface along with the killer.
