Sex trafficking is a topic that many think relates only to conditions in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. Flores dispels that notion with the story of her exploitation as a teenager in the Detroit area. After being assaulted by a classmate, she was then blackmailed by his cousins—through threats of exposure and violence against her and her family—into performing as a sex slave for two years. Renee Raudman provides a steady narration with a cool and even tone. She portrays Flores with tightly controlled emotions and a sense of resignation as befits a young woman whose primary goal for several years was maintaining an appearance of normality while experiencing appalling duress.
