Nick Earls's books are known to be comic, but there’s a serious story at the heart of this one. David Tredinnick captures rock star Curtis Holland's many moods as he learns to deal with his emotions instead of hiding them. Since his band has imploded, Curtis has come home to Brisbane (Australia) to figure out what comes next. He gradually comes to terms with an array of people, as well as his relationship with his music. Although some of Earls’s characters verge on stereotypes, Tredinnick focuses on their humanity and keeps them from becoming cartoonish. But in an audiobook so focused on music, it would be nice to hear at least parts of the songs. D.M.H. © AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2011]
