Historical Fiction • 16.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1975

Although packed with historical facts, this title in the acclaimed series of the Kent Family Chronicles lacks punch and is too dependent upon soap opera settings. A strong reader could help bridge these shortcomings, but Kramer's narration is a disappointment. He does get passing grades for storytelling, and his characterizations are stronger and more effective than his utilitarian style for the narrative sections. Nonetheless, he does nothing to challenge listeners to complete the series. And that's too bad. T.J.M. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 93]
