RETURN TO HARKEN HOUSE

Although offbeat humans abound, the main character in this Gothic mystery is an ancient house made of ship's timbers and held together by the voices and dreams of past inhabitants. Jill Tanner's carefully paced reading breathes life and suspense into the heavily atmospheric text. Her ability to vocalize various personalities--from the reedy drone of Wyn to the staccato rhythms of the Germanic Trudl--maintains the listener's place in the languid flow of the plot.
