Designed to be used as a travelogue as listeners drive, this original audio program is of equal interest to armchair travelers who want to know about the history and lore of West Florida. As the program follows Interstate 75 through West Florida, mile markers are noted for listeners to orient themselves as they drive, but the programs can also be used in anticipation of the actual route to help travelers plan their stops. Grover Gardner, in resonant, mellow voice, is a pleasant guide. His obvious interest sparks the listener’s, and his affable humor adds a sparkle as he digresses to a story about a local hero or historical site. Barney Hicks adds the second voice to the program and provides a change of voice and pace occasionally. The program includes notes on local history and early settlements, marine ecology, wildlife, as well as attractions or stops listeners might want to make. The conversational style, covering events, people and unique features, makes the program interesting on the road or off. Ride With Me’s Hear America series includes more than two dozen other routes along Interstates 95, 81, 80 and others, covering the East Coast, Midwest, Texas and South Dakota.
