STEINBRENNER The Last Lion of Baseball

by | Read by Kerin McCue

Biography & Memoir • 18.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2010

The length and breadth of the late Yankees owner’s life is detailed—from his ship-building days in Ohio to his ventures in New York City. Throughout Steinbrenner’s upbringing and as one of history’s most well-known team owners, his father’s approval remained out of reach. “The Boss” comes across as a bullying executive with an impulsive, tyrannical side. His personal style played out notoriously in the tabloids for almost 40 years. Narrator Kerin McCue does a fine job. When appropriate, he imitates some of the Yankees owner’s many associates; PA announcer Bob Sheppard, known as the “Voice of God,” is the best. As McCue raises his voice to portray Steinbrenner himself, the man’s big personality and many frustrations come through loud and clear. M.B. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2010]
