This audiobook covers exactly what it says, beginning abruptly with Winston Churchill’s accession to power in May 1940 and ending abruptly with his loss in the election of July 1945. It provides an impressively comprehensive treatment of Churchill’s interaction with the great events of the war but next to nothing about his children or personal background. It is an excellent book but not the first book to listen to about the subject. Robin Sachs has a wonderful authoritative voice. His reading is well paced. His does a lighthearted Churchill imitation, and even though his voices for Roosevelt, Truman, and Marshall all sound the same, his all-purpose American accent works well in the production.
