THE TOMMYKNOCKERS

In his memoir, ON WRITING, King claims that he doesn’t remember where the idea for THE TOMMYKNOCKERS came from or even the process of writing the novel, due to his drug and alcohol addictions at the time. This fact is evident when one listens to narrator Edward Herrmann skillfully maneuver his way through the bulky text as the purple prose tends to weigh down the flow of the narration. In true King fashion, there are a plethora of kooky characters who populate the small town of Haven, and Herrmann never ceases to provide intuitive interpretations of each, despite the novel’s meandering plot. Ultimately, Herrmann’s wide-ranging vocal abilities serve to shrink this epic to a more user-friendly size, making sense of King’s muddled story.
