RISING TIDES

The second installment of the Quinn brothers trilogy focuses on Ethan Quinn and his courtship. The story easily stands on its own. David Stuart continues his performance, maintaining the clear characterizations begun in the earlier book. His women are believable and intelligent, his children convincing and well developed. Stuart gives each of the Quinn brothers a distinct dialect, reflecting both their shared heritage and their disparate lifestyles. His dignified handling of the story's emotional moments brings a tear to the eye without cloying overacting. His romps through the book's humorous episodes are entertaining, as well.
