ROBERT FROST READS

by | Read by Robert Frost

Poetry & Drama • 1.6 hrs. • Anthology • ©

The Frost readings were recorded in two settings over half a decade. The fidelity of the reading recorded at the 92nd St. Y is tainted by microphone shrieks and echoing. The second was recorded at Frost’s home, and the sound is just fine. In both cases, it is immensely rewarding listening. Frost has the quintessential Yankee voice: deep, slow, humorous and intelligent. One hears his delight in the word play, his joy of particular rhythms. To hear him read is also to realize how very funny he is; he speaks the dialogue in his narrative poems knowingly, immediately establishing with his voice and his timing his total intimacy with what is going forth: the quality of communication between husband and wife, mother and son, employer and hand. The recording provides a very joyful and satisfying experience. E.J.M. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPT 93]
