BEST OF THE WEST, VOL. 2

This appealing collection of Western tales is well-presented by its readers. Ed Asner stands out as the best of the narrators--and the reader who seems most involved with his characters. Asner’s gravelly, drawling voice and believable Spanish accent supply just the right tone for these stories of Native Americans, troopers and frontierspeople. Richard Thomas’s reading offers a sharp contrast to Asner’s with his crisp, clear articulation. Diane Ladd narrates the women’s stories with a sultry, southern accent. The collection opens and closes with appealing guitar music. The addition of music between stories would have added a needed transition. Overall, this audio collection makes fine family listening.
