THE RYER AVENUE STORY

by | Read by John Durbin

Fiction • 16.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1993

Beginning with a murder in 1935, this story follows the lives of the six children who were involved as they move from the Bronx to the far corners of the world. Durbin's narration is outstanding, perfectly paced and appropriately pitched, maintaining listener interest as the story traverses forty years and dozens of characters. He uses tone, volume and accents to distinguish characters, major and minor. Uhnak is a good storyteller, and the recording enhances her text by making many of the characters unsettlingly real. The only problem with the recording is that some readers might have skipped some of the very disturbing and graphic sections if they were reading the text.
