Ron Keith fairly spits out the story of wildlife photographer Will Rabjohns, his clipped British dialect giving equal weight to lovers' trysts and brutal bear attacks. It works--his is not a gentle story. As in all good horror novels, the scariest parts lie within the minds of the tale's participants. Keith is equally at home in the homosexual communities of modern San Francisco and the frozen tundra of eighteenth-century Russia. His characterizations, while not consistent in skill, show equal respect for and understanding of personalities and motivations of all sorts. Graphic descriptions of various sexual encounters make the story unsuitable for young listeners. R.P.L. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 98]
