Listeners who are tempted to analyze the science, history, and logic of THE 5 GREATEST WARRIORS should refrain from doing so. It’s simply a thrill ride, and its hero, Jack West, Jr., a cut-rate Indiana Jones. The book is part of a series about the end of the world in which West and his colorful cohorts with cartoon names like Sky Monster, Wizard, and Pooh Bear heroically try to save the day. Steven Crossley does an excellent job translating Matthew Reilly’s frenetic book into audio. He carries the listener along from one exciting scene to another, never giving anyone the chance to ponder the implausible plot developments. The story fits comfortably into the world of conspiracy novels. Just don’t think too hard about it. M.S. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2010]
