SEA CHANGE Alone Across The Atlantic In A Wooden Boat

This is travel fiction in the style of the gloomy autobiographical flashback, similar to Paul Theroux's THE HAPPY ISLES OF OCEANIA. In both, the author travels the sea, brooding upon his recently failed marriage. Theroux used a collapsible kayak, while Nichols is on a 27-foot restored sailboat. The latter sails single-handedly from Europe to the Azores, and then heads across the Atlantic toward Maine, where, eight hundred miles from America, he sinks. Barrett Whitener is a laid-back reader with mild expressiveness, good articulation and smooth flow. Nothing distinguishes or detracts from the routine presentation.
