As an oppressive regime crushes intellectual freedoms among the tree dwellers, Toby and his family find themselves on the run. Soon, young Toby is separated from them and must learn to survive. Timothée de Fombelle’s quirky story is wonderfully creative as he gives perspective to Toby’s world—insects, birds, branches, and the mysterious grass people. Peter Berkrot’s narration is as ingenious as the story itself. His best voice is reserved for Toby’s father, a geeky professor, but he also growls and snarls his way through several evildoers and oppressors.
