Part of a series of early nineteenth-century English naval war stories, this novel traces the feats of the glorious Vice Admiral Sir Richard Bolitho during the Napoleonic Wars. Jayston expertly handles the varying accents of the characters, from the upper crust to the victims of the press gangs. As spoken by Jayston, the commands of the officers, wise comments of the older soldiers, and frightened outbursts of the young boys and landlubbers take the listener right aboard ship.
