THE SEEING GLASS

The sudden onset of multiple sclerosis leaves the author temporarily blind. This experience sends her back to the time when her brother was alive but suffering from autism. The present alternates with the past as Clark reads this excellent and gripping abridgment. Clark's reading is breathless at points and whiny at others. In her attempts to convey the emotional upheaval of Gorman's story she sometimes sounds too flat or too dramatic. Despite the uneven reading, one sympathizes greatly with Gorman in her distress.
