Tales from other eras reveal how the genre of horror writing has changed. The most unlikely tale, “The Judge’s House,” by Bram Stoker, is the most frightening. A scholar lives in a rat-infested house inhabited by the ghost of a judge who is trying to hang him. The rest of the stories are less frightening but still engaging.
