William Dufris shines as the various historical characters who fill this book, an account of one of the darkest hours in the American Revolution. As he portrays characters such as George Washington, the Marquis de Lafayette, and Baron von Steuben, Dufris creates believable voices and dialects. Between conversations, his delivery of the narrative keeps the story moving. While she has a much smaller part, the author’s wife provides a portrait of a sweet and yet firm Martha Washington.
