In the review of Dirk Bogarde's novel, Jericho, the reviewer suggested it would have been better if he had read it instead of the chosen narrator. This new autobiography, which is read by Bogarde, proves why that isn't a good idea. Sir Dirk, whose voice is justly famous for its crispness and clarity, often drops his voice at the end of sentences. This shortcoming exists throughout the recording although one gets used to it. He presents an interesting, if bleak, look at aging alone in our youth-oriented society. Toward the end of the book, Bogarde himself has had a small stroke. It appears not to have stopped him from acting or writing, but perhaps narrating his own material should be left to others. E.F. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 94]
