A MANHATTAN GHOST STORY

by | Read by Dick Hill

Fantasy • 8 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1994

A haunting tale quickly embeds itself in the listener’s mind. Dick Hill’s narration is by turns soothing, menacing, and poignant as he portrays photographer Abner Crane’s confusion over the strangeness of the woman he falls in love with. It does seem to take Abner an inordinate amount of time to realize that the woman is dead. Furthermore, the story ends with the listener feeling that little has been resolved. This latter effect is intentional, however, as in Wright’s fictional worlds resolution us usually lacking. It is perhaps this lack of resolution, as well as Hill’s beautiful narration, that gives this production its emotional power. C.A.T. © AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2011]
