To pursue work in another part of England Chrissie's father has again left her and her two younger brothers alone. The feisty protagonist does all she can to keep the family together, including playing a boy in one of the first silent movies. Jan Francis does an exceptional job bringing this novel to life. Her skills are put to the test as she changes voices to suit the many characters. And her British accent is perfect for this story, which is set in the streets of London at the turn of the century.
