This soap opera has something for everyone. Michael, an ex-convict, returns to a sleepy Canadian community to resolve childhood issues. While nursing a rare, wounded falcon, he encounters a widow and her mute son. Narrator Dick Hill wonderfully captures the diverse human characters, but he's really at his best as he describes the thoughts and actions of the bird. To the author's credit, the falcon has her own persona, enhanced by Hill's narration. The listener dives, soars and feels the falcon's pain, thanks to the narrator. Listening to this complex tale is a pleasure, and Hill makes it even more so. A.L.H. © AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 99]
