THE ORCHID AFFAIR

The world of espionage during the Napoleonic era was full of intrigue and danger. In her newest adventure, the Pink Carnation enlists Laura Grey, the Silver Orchid, to spy on André Jaouen in the Ministry of Police in Paris. Narrator Kate Reading is delightful as she tells of Grey’s secret rendezvous with poets and booksellers. Grey seeks clues to the Royalist plot to enthrone the prince they’ve hidden away for his safety. As the story wends its way through Paris, Reading switches from French to English to Latin seamlessly. Listeners will enjoy the leisurely pace as Reading escorts them along Paris’s winding streets and introduces them to verbose, erudite characters.
