READING JACKIE Her Autobiography in Books

Narrator Susan Denaker's mastery of a wide range of accents and characterizations shines in this account of the 20 years Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis worked as an editor for Viking and Doubleday. The book demonstrates the ways in which the titles Jackie brought to press reflected specific aspects of her life and worldview. Denaker's skillful delivery allows listeners to distinguish between narrative and quotations from Jackie and the people in her life. Despite some odd inflections and unexpected pauses, Denaker's performance preserves the respect with which Kuhn approached this biography. The analysis of Jackie's publishing career is not told chronologically; thus, a few anecdotes are repeated. Listeners may wish for pen and paper to jot down some of the titles discussed.
