SOMEWHERE OFF THE COAST OF MAINE

by | Read by Kimberly Schraf

Fiction • 7.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1987

Hood creates a wonderful, nostalgic view, not only of her three main characters, but also of their friends and families. Friends Suzanne, Elizabeth, and Claudia grew up during the flower power of the '60s. Some maintain these values while others have joined the "establishment." It's intriguing to hear how each woman recalls past events and then glimpse how each has since altered or continued her life. Kimberly Schraf effectively gives the many characters distinction and believability. The story presents an interesting insight into the evolution of the '60s lifestyle once the followers matured and had adult situations thrust upon them. The fast-moving and time-shifting story is skillfully read, and Schraf's technique keeps the circuitous narrative easy to follow. S.G.B. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/MAR 01]
