THE SCARIFYERS The Secret Weapon of Doom

The mantle of British radio drama, once the pride of the BBC, is being passed to independent producers, such as those who created THE SCARIFYERS, an audio comic strip (like the French TINTIN but with the lights out), in which seasoned detectives Dunning and Lionheart investigate supernatural crimes. Episodes, here provided complete, were initially broadcast in serialized form. In this case, writers of horror stories are being slain by their various fictional villains, obviously some sort of plot by an evil, magical mastermind. Performances are consistently excellent, the production polished, the humor broad but contained, the plotting adept. If some of the jokes seem forced, they soon pass to more arresting dialogue and situations. Numerous sly references to other mystery and fantasy fiction will tickle those in the know.
