After their childhood friend, Jack, is killed in a car accident, Will and his buddy, Hand, decide to travel around the world to distribute a windfall of $80,000 to the needy and deserving. Dion Graham's spot-on emotional reading of the young men's crazy adventures, and especially of Will's many tortured internal dialogues, saves the novel from monotony. Through Graham's expressive performance, listeners are able to relate to Will's genuine grief and confusion and cringe at Hand's unpredictability and obliviousness. Without the filter of Graham's narration, the men's adolescent behavior could be difficult to endure. As they travel from Chicago to Africa to the Baltics on their circuitous one-week journey to divest themselves of cash, Graham easily handles the variety of necessary accents. C.B.L.
