PILGRIM'S REST

Seasoned narrator Diana Bishop presents a classic British cozy featuring the elderly former governess, now private detective, Miss Silver. The story has the standard accoutrements: the country estate, eccentric aunts, suspicious staff, clever lady detective, romantic entanglements, and of course, an abundance of corpses. Bishop helps the listener get through the ingenious but convoluted plot with her clearl enunciation, cool tone, and precise delineation of character. Her understated style is highly appropriate to the refined, sedate yet shell-shocked world of England 1946. To some, the Miss Silver novels may seem dated or too tame for modern tastes, but for those who enjoy the genre, this will be a comfortable retreat to an imaginary past.
