Jane Yellowrock rides her Harley into New Orleans to accept a new job: vampire hunter. Hired by a vampire madam to locate a rogue killer, Jane keeps secret her ability to shapeshift into a panther. Khristine Hvam portrays Jane with an adventurous-sounding voice edged with a twang. Prepared for anything, Jane exudes a calm confidence that is the epitome of “have gun, will travel.” “Beast,” Jane’s inner panther, sounds flatter and calculating. However, when Jane and “Beast” are sharing Jane’s head, it’s difficult to distinguish between them. More successful are Hvam’s voices for the Louisiana locals whom Jane learns to love and respect. These voices augment an intriguing story with hints of Native American mysticism. Luckily for listeners, there are sequels.
