Casey Jones, formerly a dancer and now a cruise ship entertainment director, finds herself drawn into the lives of difficult passengers, her on-and-off attraction to the ship’s doctor, and even a possible murder. Julia Barrie expertly juggles the fast-paced action and the slower–paced descriptions of the ship and the Mediterranean ports of call. Her British accent, refined yet not too posh, delivers Casey’s dialogue and thoughts with just the right degree of humor. She capably changes to a more serious tone when Casey is in her crime-solving mode. Barrie differentiates the sometimes-zany characters onboard ship through deepening her voice for the males and changing her tone—to indicate class—for the female passengers.
