THE BLACK BOX All-New Cockpit Voice Recorder Accounts of In-flight Accidents

by | Read by Michael Prichard

Contemporary Culture • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

If enough people listen to this book, it will do to airplanes what JAWS did to the beaches. Michael Prichard has the unenviable task of narrating cockpit transcripts of doomed airline flights, but he does a surprisingly effective job. This is due in great part to the fact that Prichard has an eerie, robotic voice that sounds like it could be a warning recording on a troubled flight. There are few narrators who can convincingly say "Whoop! Whoop! Pull up!" in every chapter and make it heartrending. He reads with no emotion, letting the words reveal themselves slowly, methodically to their tragic end. It's almost too much to bear listening to the 28 incidents presented in this book.
