SUN GOING DOWN

Todd chronicles four generations of the Paint family through 70 years of hardship and heartache. Letters and diaries from the author’s own family archives form the basis for these events and characters. Narrator James Jenner does his best to build listener interest in this hardscrabble story, which spans history from the Civil War to the Great Depression. His delivery is clear and crisp, with overtones of the dialects that reflect the people and places featured in the succeeding decades. But the story suffers from too much mundane detail about too few people with little effort to engage the listener through subplots and secondary characters.
