Karen Ziemba nails the perfect voice for Ali Reynolds, who has been furloughed by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department because of budget cuts. As a result, she feels compelled to investigate the disappearance of Brenda Riley’s fiancé on her own. Ziemba uses tenor tones for Ali’s boyfriend, “B”— short for Bartholomew. His computer security company reveals that Brenda’s fiancé is Richard Lowensdale, a laid-off engineer who has a history of cyberstalking vulnerable women. Ziemba instills Ali’s voice with carefully placed pauses that suggest her intelligence and quiet determination as she pursues a cold-blooded killer.
