Tough, stubborn Rowan Tripp, a Montana smoke jumper who parachutes into remote areas to combat wildfires, has more to be concerned about than hot rookie Gull Curry when she becomes the target of a serial killer. Rebecca Lowman gives a credible performance of each of the many characters in this latest offering from the popular Nora Roberts. Weighed down by too many fires and too much firefighter lingo, the story drags. But Lowman gives the story texture by varying her pace, using a slower-paced delivery for most of the character interaction and a punched-up delivery for the tense scenes of battling the "dragon" fire.
